MCLA ANNOUNCES YOUTH SUMMER CAMPS AND SPORTS CLINICS

6/20/19
NORTH ADAMS, MASS. — Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announces that registration is open for the College’s annual summer camps and sports clinics. Camps and clinics are available for students in grades 4 through 12 and include Young Hacks, Science and Robotics, and a summer volleyball clinic. A limited number of camperships are funded in part by Northern Berkshire United Way’s Campership Grants Program.

Young Hacks: $375

Level I: July 15-19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Grades 4-7, ages 9-12

Level II: July 22-26, Grades 7-10, ages 12-15

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Does your child have what it takes to lead in the 21st century? Young Hacks Academy is a summer camp that uses technology to develop real-world leadership skills. As serious as we are about exploring technology, YHA is also committed to having fun away from the screen, moving campers outside each day for unplugged games like treasure hunts and riddle relays. No programming experience is required.

Science and Robotics: $350

July 22-26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Grades 4-7, ages 9-12

This camp is for students with an interest in science and robotics. Campers will participate in a number of hands-on science activities and experiments and will use Lego Mindstorm RCX and NXTs to create robots. The program culminates in a Robot Demolition Derby, which families are invited to attend.

Summer Volleyball Clinic: $150

July 8-12, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Grades 7-12

Conducted by longtime MCLA Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Beckwith, this clinic is open to rising volleyball players who are entering grades 7-12. Each day, the clinic will include drills, team-building exercises, offensive and defensive strategies, and more. Beckwith, the winningest coach in the history of MCLA’s volleyball program, has coached numerous all-conference players, won a season championship, and advanced into postseason play. For further questions about the clinic, please contact Coach Beckwith at (413) 662-5061 or via email at A.Beckwith@mcla.edu.

Summer camp and clinic participants should bring their own lunch, snacks, and drinks. For more information and to register, call (413) 662-5575 or go to www.mcla.edu/summercamps.
