Link options include

  • Internal: If the link will be directing to another page on the mcla.edu website
  • External: If the link will be directing to a page outside of mcla.edu
  • Asset: If the link will be directing to an document, image or video.
  • Anchor: Coming soon
  • Email: If the link willbe directing to an Email address

Linking Text

When creating links for text, follow the guidelines below:

1. Link text should make sense of context without the surrounding sentence, paragraph, etc.

Why? Screen reader users typically do not have their screen readers speak the entire page top to bottom. Instead they skim the page and screen readers often pull out links without the surrounding sentence or paragraph.

2. Link text should be descriptive and not repeated on the page.

Why? Speech recognition software allows usres to speak the text of the link they would like to follow. If multiple links on the page have similar text, the experience of using the software may be confusing.
