Visiting Writer Series


The English & Philosophy Department brings a renowned poet, fiction writer or essayist
to campus each semester, to meet with students and to offer a public reading of their
work.
2026 Visiting Writers

Franny Choi
Choi's books include The World Keeps Ending, and the World Goes On (Ecco, 2022), a finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award; Soft Science (Alice James Books, 2019), and Floating, Brilliant, Gone (Write Bloody Publishing, 2014). They are currently the Poet Laureate of Northampton,
MA, a member of the Literature Faculty at Bennington College and the founder of Brew
& Forge, a non-profit that supports writers, especially of color, committed to imagining
radical change. They have a new essay collection forthcoming from Ecco Press in 2027.

Hannah Fries
Hannah Fries is the author of A Forest Language (Storey), Being with Trees (Storey) and the poetry collection Little Terrarium (Hedgerow Books). Her poetry and prose have appeared in such places as The Marginalian, Terrain.org, Orion, and American Poetry Review. Her work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, and she was awarded a scholarship
from the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. From 2005 to 2014 she was an editor at Orion
magazine. She grew up in the woods of New Hampshire and now lives in western Massachusetts
with a forester and two tree-climbing kids.

Miciah Bay Gault
Miciah Bay Gault is the author of the novels The Nobody Code and Goodnight Stranger, which was a finalist for the Shirley Jackson award and longlisted for the Center
for Fiction’s first novel prize. Miciah is the Elizabeth Drew professor of fiction
at Smith College and core faculty in the MFA in writing program at Vermont College
of Fine Arts. She directed the Vermont Book Awards for ten years. She’s been a fellow
at Bread Loaf, a visiting writer at Vermont Studio Center, and the recipient of several
Vermont Arts Council grants. Her fiction and essays have appeared in Tin House, The Sun, Agni, The Southern Review, The Harvard Review, The New York Times
Modern Love Column, Poets & Writers, and other places. She lives in Vermont.

Bonnie Hartley
Bonnie Hartley is a member of Stockbridge-Munsee Community, a founding member of Mohican
Writers Circle, and a recent graduate from Institute of American Indian Arts for poetry.
Her work has been featured in Poetry Northwest, The Last Milkweed (Tupelo Press), and Boundless (Amherst College Press). She is a 2024 and 2025 Indigenous Nations Poets fellow,
2025 Forge Project Fellow, and recipient of a 2026 Harpo Fellowship residency at Vermont
Studio Center.

Rena J. Mosteirin
Mosteirin is the author of Disaster Tourism (BOA Editions) and Experiment 116 (Counterpath Press). She is also the co-author, with James E. Dobson, of Moonbit (punctum books) and Perceptron (punctum books). She teaches at Dartmouth College, owns Left Bank Books in Hanover, NH, and is the co-editor of Bloodroot Literary Magazine.
