What is LEAD Academy?
L.E.A.D. stands for Leadership, Education, Action, and Development. It is a five day leadership, college success, and civic engagement action program for freshmen students at MCLA. It is designed to develop leadership and college preparation skills that students can immediately apply at MCLA and beyond.
LEAD Academy prepares freshmen to excel at MCLA, discover pathways to success in college, distinguish themselves as leaders and immediately make an impact in their new community. LEAD workshops and activities explore leadership, college success, personal and professional growth, teambuilding, civic engagement and much more. This five-day summer action program is an excellent chance for freshmen to jumpstart their MCLA careers and bond with fellow student leaders and staff. LEAD Academy is available to a limited amount of freshmen at a minimal cost.

What kinds of activities will we do?
LEAD Academy activities are a combination of workshops focusing on college success, leadership, and personal and professional growth. LEAD students also will choose from various community service projects in the local area and discuss those experiences. LEAD students will participate in team building activities, including a low ropes course. Additionally, there are panel discussions with current student leaders and staff. The workshops and activities are facilitated by current MCLA student leaders and MCLA staff who together have identified these topics as most critical for incoming students.
How many people will participate in LEAD Academy?
The 2022 LEAD Academy will be between 20 and 25 participants.
What are the dates and times of the program?
LEAD Academy 2022 will start on Saturday, June 25 and will run through Wednesday, June 29.
Where will I stay during the program?
LEAD Academy participants and staff will stay in one of the residence halls.
What is the cost of LEAD Academy?
Academies are completely FREE for all participants.

Become a LEAD Staff Member: Who better to coach incoming freshmen on being a successful, involved student than
current students who have done it themselves? Part of what makes LEAD Academy an exciting
program is that student leaders help to design and run it. Being a LEAD staff member
is a great way to help build a strong MCLA community and to mentor future MCLA leaders.
